Title VI in Focus and Free Speech on Campus
Conversations and actions that unfolded on campus since October 7, 2023, prompted members of our campus community and beyond to engage in dialogue about what language is protected by free speech and what language would violate Title VI, which prohibits discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, color, and national origin.
During the 2024 spring semester, the IDEA Leadership Team hosted a workshop for students and a webinar for staff and faculty to examine the complexities of two fundamental aspects: Free Speech and Title VI (enshrined in the Civil Rights Act of 1964).
