Metro Art commissioned Professor of Art Ken Gonzales-Day to create a public art display at the new听Metro D Line Wilshire/Fairfax Station across the street from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
The exhibit, titled听Urban Excavation: Ancestors, Avatars, Bodhisattvas, Buddhas, Casts, Copies, Deities, Figures, Funerary Objects, Gods, Guardians, Mermaids, Metaphors, Mothers, Possessions, Sages, Spirits, Symbols, and Other Objects,听was created by Gonzales-Day after he reviewed more than 4,000 sculptural objects that are part of LACMA鈥檚 permanent collection.听听
鈥淚 hope that听Urban Excavation听will allow visitors a chance to rediscover LACMA, and some of L.A. County鈥檚 richest cultural treasures, for many years to come,鈥� Gonzales-Day told LACMA鈥檚 blog听Unframed.听听
