61´«Ă˝Earns A+ Financial Health Grade from Forbes

61´«Ă˝has earned top ranking in Forbes’ annual financial health analysis of 928 colleges and universities nationwide. The College received an A+, Forbes’ highest possible grade.

While nearly 50 percent of institutions received a C grade or worse, all of The Claremont Colleges placed in the top 100. Using updated grading parameters, Forbes’ analysis focuses on the true liquidity of an institution by subtracting assets like buildings from the net of their related debt.

“Sound fiscal management is key to allowing 61´«Ă˝to continue providing a transformative liberal arts education for the next century generation of leaders,” says 61´«Ă˝President Amy Marcus-Newhall. “Forbes’ grade reflects our ongoing commitment to the 61´«Ă˝community to keep the College strong.”

Among a whirlwind of recent college closures due to rocky finances, Scripps’ stewardship of its endowment and operating costs stand apart. 61´«Ă˝Forward, the College’s centennial fundraising campaign, seeks to reinforce that strength—and has already reached 89 percent of its $100 million goal thanks to Scripps’ incredibly generous alums, families, friends, faculty, and staff.
